Yamunanagar, June 26

The person who set the Haryana Roadways bus on fire at the Bilaspur bus stand in Yamunanagar district on Saturday has been identified with the help of CCTV footage.

On the complaint of driver Jagjit Singh, a case was registered against an unidentified person under Section 435 of the IPC at Bilaspur police station on June 24.

A bus of the Yamunanagar depot of Haryana Roadways caught fire at the Bilaspur bus stand on June 22.

No passenger was on board when the incident took place around 11.15 am. The bus carrying about 50 passengers was on way to Chhachhrauli from Yamunanagar via Bilaspur.

Sonu Ram, General Manager, Yamunanagar depot, said that when the CCTV footage at the Bilaspur bus stand was checked, it was found that the bus was set on fire by a person.

“Earlier, we thought that the fire had broken out due to a short circuit. But when the CCTV footage was checked, it came to light that the bus was set on fire by a person,” said Sonu Ram.

He said that the suspect had been identified and the police had been informed.

“The suspect belongs to Ramgarh of Panchkula district. At present, he is staying at Bilaspur,” said Sonu Ram.

Sunil Kumar, SHO, Bilaspur, said that a case had been registered and the investigation was on.

“We are trying to identify and locate the suspect. No arrest has been made so far,” he said.
