Marital dispute turns fatal, man shoots woman on street in Faridabad

A 30-year-old woman was shot dead on a street by her husband in Faridabad on Friday night after 13 years of their love marriage. The accused fled the spot after the incident. An FIR was registered against him at the Palla police station.

According to the police, the deceased, Sangeeta Devi, had separated from her husband and had been living at Sunlight Colony in Basantpur village with her two children. Her divorce case with her husband was pending in a local court in Delhi.

The incident took place around 8:00 pm on Friday night in the colony. Locals said Dilip Yadav, the estranged husband of Sangeeta, and his family members confronted Sangeeta on the street when she was returning home.

According to the police, an argument broke out between the two parties. In a fit of rage, Dilip, who was allegedly carrying a weapon, fired three rounds at Sangeeta. She sustained two bullet injuries and collapsed on the street. Hearing the gunshots, people in the area rushed out of their houses, seeing which the accused fled.

After getting the information, the deceased's father also reached the spot. With the help of neighbours, injured Sangeeta was taken to a private hospital in Sector 31, where doctors declared her brought dead. The police sent the body for a postmortem examination.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the couple had a love marriage 13 years ago and have two daughters of 11 and five. Their divorce case was pending in Delhi’s Saket court. A case of murder has been registered against Dilip Yadav, who is native of Bihar, and teams have been formed to arrest him at the earliest," said a spokesperson for the Faridabad police.
