Mayor hands over loan acceptance letters to 20 street vendors in Karnal
PM SVANidhi scheme rolled out
Mayor Renu Bala Gupta on Friday distributed loan acceptance letters to 20 street vendors under the PM SVANidhi scheme. This programme was organised simultaneously with an event held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM SVANidhi Credit Card.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Gupta said the PM’s initiative would further improve financial access for street vendors. She said under the scheme, collateral-free loans of up to Rs 50,000 are being provided to promote digital transactions and self-reliance, enabling street vendors to expand their businesses and increase their income.
She said street vendors who successfully repay the second instalment become eligible for the PM SVANidhi Credit Card. Under this provision, eligible street vendors in Karnal district will be issued credit cards through various banks, with a credit limit of Rs 30,000. She maintained that with this initiative, street vendors, like other citizens, will also be able to use credit cards.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Abhe Singh shared that earlier, loans under the PM SVANidhi scheme were issued in instalments of Rs 10,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000. However, as per the revised guidelines effective from September 2025, the first instalment is now Rs 15,000, the second Rs 25,000 and the third is Rs 50,000. He further informed that so far, 12,215 street vendors in Karnal district have received the first instalment, 4,033 have received the second instalment and 1,175 street vendors have been provided the third instalment.
