Cabinet Minister Krishan Bedi on Monday took a tough stand on the ongoing sanitation workers’ strike in Fatehabad, warning that strict action would be taken if protesters obstruct the administration’s clean-up operations.

Bedi was in Fatehabad to chair a meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committee at the DPRC Bhawan. Bedi said sanitation workers were free to continue their strike but should not interfere with the administration’s efforts to clean the city. “The administration carried out a clean-up drive in Fatehabad last night. If employees directly confront the government and administration, we may be forced to take strict action,” he said.

The minister said talks with the workers remained open and a meeting with CM Nayab Singh Saini would be held. Bedi added that he, Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel and senior officials were working to address the workers’ demands, but some legal issues were delaying the final decision.
