Minister urges quick action on sewerage issues

Haryana’s Urban Local Bodies Minister, Vipul Goyal, has instructed officials at the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to address the city’s ongoing sewerage problems on priority.

During a meeting with MCG Commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg and Chief Engineer Manoj Kumar, the Minister noted residents from multiple localities have raised concerns about worsening sewerage problems over the past few weeks. Goyal emphasised the need for a permanent solution, stating, “We must provide a neat and clean environment and good living conditions to the local residents.”

The Commissioner assured the minister MCG was preparing a plan to replace decades-old sewerage lines from Sector 1 to Sector 57 to increase their capacity. Additionally, new sewage treatment plants (STPs) have been commissioned to treat waste water. Garg also mentioned machinery required to clean the existing sewerage lines is being upgraded.

The minister also instructed MCG officials to focus on improving the city’s sanitation system.

Ashok Garg said MCG is working proactively on cleanliness. He stated secondary garbage collection points are being cleaned daily and at key locations, trolleys and large dustbins have been placed to facilitate proper waste disposal. Garg added efforts are also underway to educate residents on responsible garbage disposal to maintain cleanliness.
