Miri Piri dispute: SGPC president to visit hospital on August 8, to disclose future plans

Amid the ongoing tussle between the SGPC and HSGMC over the management of Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami will visit the Miri Piri Hospital on Saturday to review its functioning and chalk out the future course of action.

Meanwhile, in a partial relief to the employees, one month's's salary of all the employees has been cleared. The employees had been seeking pending salaries for four months. Earlier, of over 360 employees, salaries of 107 Class-IV employees were released on Tuesday.

Due to the ongoing dispute, while the salaries of the employees were not being released, in the absence of funds, the construction work of the hospital and medical college building has also come to a standstill.

Miri Piri Trust Secretary Sukhminder Singh said that SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, who is also the chairman of the trust, will reach the hospital on Saturday and review the functioning of the institute.

“The president will review the functioning and hold a meeting with the members of the trust and employees. He will also meet the Sikh Sangat of Haryana and disclose the plans for the institute on Saturday,” he said.

CEO of Miri Piri Institute Dr Sandeep Inder Singh Cheema said, “We had presented our report regarding the status of the hospital, requirement of funds and projects in the Trust meeting held on Wednesday. The trust has decided to keep running the institute, and has released one month's salary of the employees. The decision regarding the remaining salaries and funds will be discussed on Saturday. We are hopeful that the construction work of the buildings of the hospital and medical college will resume soon.”

Meanwhile, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has postponed its meeting.

HSGMC President Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “A meeting was called for Saturday to invite suggestions from all 49 members of the committee regarding the future course of action. However, after the latest developments and the proposed visit of the SGPC president, it has been decided to postpone the meeting to Monday.”
