Missing for 15 years, Mahrashtra woman united with parents in Sonepat
The Haryana Police's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) from Panchkula successfully reunited 22-year-old Neha, who had been missing for the past 15 years from Wardha district, Maharashtra, with her family. She got separated from her family at the age of 7 in Wardha and was residing at a shelter home in Sonepat.
DGP Shatrujeet Kapur congratulated the AHTU team on this achievement and encouraged them to continue such work in the future. A police spokesperson said ASI Rajesh Kumar, posted in the AHTU Panchkula unit, visited a government shelter home, ‘Balgram’, in Sonepat, where Neha approached him for help.
“Sir, I have been living here for the past 13 years, and I don’t know where my parents are. I miss them a lot. Please, help me find my parents,” she reportedly told Rajesh Kumar, who assured her that the police would make every possible effort to find her family.
The AHTU team from Panchkula counselled the woman and gathered clues about her family. She shared with the team that there were two lanes near her house, the language there was different and elderly men wore a distinct type of cap.
According to the information received, Neha came to this shelter home from Panipat in 2012 when she was about 9 years old. She has been living in Sonepat for the past 13 years.
The police found that a missing case was registered for a girl in Wardha district, Maharashtra, on March 15, 2010. After this, her family was contacted. The police spokesperson informed that the Haryana Police contacted Neha’s brother, Aniket, and identified the family through a video call. The family recognised their daughter during the call and arrived in Sonepat to take her back. After completing all necessary formalities under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee, Sonepat, the woman was reunited with her family.
Praising the efforts, ADGP Mamta Singh advised everyone to ensure that their children have Aadhaar cards and keep them updated.
