The people of Ahirwal, especially Rewari and Mahendragarh districts, were disappointed on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not mention the demand for an all-India institute of medical sciences (AIIMS) in Manethi village, announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar over three years ago.

The people were expecting an assurance on the AIIMS keeping in view their sentiments and bid to gain a political edge over opposition parties in Ahirwal ahead of parliamentary elections, but no such thing happened. Speaking from the dais, Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh demanded an AIIMS for Haryana.

“We were hopeful of a positive response from the Prime Minister, but he disappointed us. It was a great opportunity to get assurance from the Prime Minister on an AIIMS in Manethi,” said Sheotaz Singh, chief of the AIIMS Sangharsh Samiti.

Rajender Singh, social activist who was part of the agitation, said people of Ahirwal were dejected by not getting any positive signal regarding an AIIMS in Manethi as BJP workers had been projecting that the demand would be accepted in the rally. “We will continue our agitation till the demand is met,” he said.

Ved Prakash Vidrohi, former state Congress spokesperson, said by ignoring the demand of an AIIMS, both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister had proven that the announcement of an AIIMS was nothing more than a mere jumla.

“Those organising the agitation for an AIIMS must boycott BJP candidates in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” he said.

Vijay Kumar, a local businessman, said people of Rewari and Mahendragarh districts had gone to the rally for hearing an announcement on AIIMS, but they returned home disappointed.
