Congress MP Kumari Selja met party workers in Dabwali town in Sirsa district on Sunday and listened to public grievances. Speaking to reporters later, she accused the BJP-led Central Government of misusing Central investigative agencies for political purposes. Referring to recent developments in West Bengal, Selja said it was no longer a secret that agencies were used more aggressively against political opponents whenever elections approached, especially in states where the BJP was not in power.
She alleged that West Bengal was a clear example, where efforts were allegedly being made before elections to destabilise the state government and influence the democratic process. This, she said, shows the BJP’s lack of faith in democracy and was a matter of serious concern.
Selja said the Congress had always stood firmly with the poor and marginalised sections of society. She recalled that during the UPA government, MGNREGA was enacted as a law under the leadership of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, guaranteeing 100 days of employment to rural poor, with the Central Government bearing the full financial responsibility.
