Officials of Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) have sealed seven properties, including a poultry farm and a mobile tower, in twin cities today. The owners of these seven properties had to pay a total property tax of Rs 70.84 lakh to the MCYJ.

Officials of the MCYJ have so far sealed 26 properties as their owner failed to pay the outstanding tax in the last one month. Preparations are on to seal properties of all those defaulters, who owe property tax to the MCYJ.

According to information, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, two teams had been formed under the leadership of Zonal Taxation Officer (ZTO) Ajay Walia in Yamunanagar zone and office superintendent Pradeep Kumar in Jagadhri zone to seal properties of tax defaulters.

After sealing properties, the MCYJ pasted notices on these properties, which warned owners that if the seal was tampered with or an attempt was made to open it without the permission of the Municipal Corporation, legal action would be taken against them.

Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha said officials of the MCYJ had issued final notices under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, to owners of properties, who had pending property tax of more than Rs 5 lakh. He said properties of all tax defaulters to whom notices had been issued would be sealed.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Pal Yadav said in the first phase, properties of those, who owed tax of more than Rs 5 lakh, were being sealed. He said after this, action would be taken against those who owed property tax of more than Rs 1 lakh.

“Properties of those owners, who did not deposit tax or failed to respond to notices, are being sealed. Defaulters should take the notice seriously and deposit their outstanding tax on time. Sealing can be avoided only by depositing property tax,” said Dr Yadav.
