Panipat, July 24

Khandra village in the district erupted in celebrations this morning after Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra created history one more time, becoming only the second Indian and first male track and field athlete to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship 2022 in Oregon, USA, by clinching silver in the javelin throw final.

A proud moment

It is a proud moment for everyone to enter the medal tally. We were confident that Neeraj would bring the medal as he had been working very hard for the World Championship. — Satish Chopra, Neeraj Chopra’s father

His family members and villagers watched Neeraj’s javelin event on a giant TV screen set up in a street. The family members, including mother Saroj Devi, immediately started distributing laddoos and other sweets after Neeraj bagged the medal around 7.15 am.

Panipat Deputy Commissioner Sushil Kumar Sarwan, who watched the event with Neeraj’s father Satish Chopra, congratulated the family on his success.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya congratulated Neeraj Chopra’s family members and wished that he would bring gold medal in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Rajya Sabha Member Krishan Lal Panwar, Karnal MP Sanjay Bhatia, MLAs Mahipal Dhanda, Pramod Vij, Balbir Valmiki and other political leaders also congratulated the family members for Neeraj’s win.
