Complete verification of Yamunanagar stone crushing units in four weeks, NGT tells panel

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Joint Committee to file the final verification report of 87 stone crushing units of Yamunanagar district with respect to environmental norms within four weeks.

The directions were issued by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Dr Afroz Ahmad during a recent hearing of Sukhdeep Singh vs Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and others. The Joint Committee had been appointed by the NGT order dated September 11, 2024. The committee had filed a progress report before the NGT on February 17, 2026.

According to the report, there are 217 stone crushing units in the Yamunanagar district, of these 127 are currently operational. “Out of the 217 units, 40 units were found dismantled. 50 units were closed by the HSPCB for not fulfilling environmental norms. Besides, the verification of 40 units has already been completed and the verification work of the remaining 87 units shall be completed soon,” said Pardeep Singh, Regional Officer, HSPCB.

The NGT has directed the committee to complete the verification of the pending 87 units and submit a report within four weeks. The HSPCB has initiated action against all non-complying units and is working to ensure that none of the non-complying units operate without adhering to environmental norms.

The next date of hearing has been fixed for April 1, 2026.
