NIT-Kurukshetra hosts course on sustainable manufacturing plans

Experts to deliberate on Industry 4.0, additive manufacturing & smart production systems

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT-Kurukshetra) on Monday commenced a five-day short-term course titled “Sustainable and Intelligent Manufacturing Strategies: Materials, Processes and Industrial Applications (SIMS-2026)”.

The programme has been designed to equip participants with contemporary knowledge and skills aligned with emerging trends in sustainable and intelligent manufacturing. Key focus areas include smart manufacturing practices such as automation, robotics and data-driven decision-making; additive manufacturing technologies encompassing 3D and emerging 4D printing and process modelling, simulation and optimisation techniques.

Addressing the inaugural session, Prof Dixit Garg, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics and Industrial Engineering, NIT-Kurukshetra, underscored the relevance of advanced and sustainable manufacturing technologies in the Industry 4.0 ecosystem and their role in nation-building. He lauded the department’s efforts in organising the programme and encouraged the conduct of more such initiatives to foster collaborative research in the future.

The coordinators and conveners outlined the objectives and structure of the STC and introduced experts drawn from leading institutions across the country.

Amar Nath, retd IAS, was the chief guest, while Prof Pulak Mohan Pandey, Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, attended as the guest of honour. In the first technical session, Prof Pandey spoke on recent advancements in additive manufacturing, highlighting industrial prospects as well as associated challenges.

Around 70 participants from 23 to 25 states have registered for the programme. Faculty members from IITs, NITs and other premier institutions, including IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Patna, IIT-Indore, NIT-Jalandhar, NIT-Patna, NIT-Delhi, PEC-Chandigarh, SMVDU-Jammu, RJIT-Tekanpur and GGSIPU-Delhi, will deliver expert lectures during the remaining sessions of the five-day course.
