Karnal, November 26

The BJP, Congress and INLD are taking time in announcing the names of their candidates for the posts of mayor and councillors.

Jagmohan Anand, district BJP president, said that all names would be declared by November 30. “We are fully prepared for the elections and are not in a hurry to declare names. I handed over the list of probable candidates to the committee,” he said.

On the mayoral ticket for Liberty Group MD Shami Bansal’s daughter-in-law Himani Bansal, which was circulated on social media, Anand said it was a rumour.

Anand said if the party fielded his wife Rekha Anand, she would contest and win. The sources said former Mayor Renu Bala Gupta could be fielded. They said the names of former district president Ashok Sukhija’s daughter-in-law Dipti Sukhija, former Senior Deputy Mayor Krishan Garg’s daughter-in-law Monika Garg and former councillors Sujata Arora and Sonia Pandit were being considered.

State Congress president Ashok Tanwar would explore options in each ward. “I will meet party workers and take feedback about probable candidates. The announcement will be done in five or six days,” he said.

State INLD president Ashok Arora said, “The district president has been asked to explore options. We will announce the names this week.”
