Old veggie market turns into dumpyard

The old vegetable market in Ward No. 22 of Hansi town in Hisar district has turned into an unauthorised garbage dumping point.

The market has been shifted to a new place on the outskirts of the town.

The open space is being used to dump the garbage and waste by shopkeepers and rehriwalas. Though the Municipal Council, Hansi, has given the contract for lifting the garbage to a contractor, residents complain that the garbage-lifting vehicles of the civic body have not reached here to lift the waste for the past many days, leaving heaps of the waste unattended.

Sandeep Kumar, a local resident, said the area is located in the centre of the town. “Stray animals can be seen near the garbage strewn across the area. Foul smell emanating from the garbage is troubling residents as they have to rush from the area,” he said.

Sandeep added that the civic body authorities should utilise the land for a commercial purpose or developing a green belt on it.

The chairperson said, “The contractor who has been assigned the task of lifting the garbage is unable to send vehicles or tippers to collect the waste as the road to the dumping station is blocked due to a construction work. Once the road is cleared, the waste will be collected from the site,” he stated.
