On road to clean energy

Karnal: Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Arvind Sawant has inaugurated an electric vehicle charging station at a resort on the NH-44 here. It has a capacity to charge six vehicles at a time. The station is powered with a solar-powered charger. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to make the country pollution-free. Keeping this in mind, electric vehicle charging stations have been opened in Karnal, Ambala, Pipli, Panipat, Samalkha and Rai on the Delhi-Ambala National Highway-44,” the minister said, adding the novel initiative had found support from the Haryana Government.

Donating blood is in the family

Karnal: Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya honoured Ashok Kumar Verma and his daughter Priyanka at Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, for donating blood several times in 2017-18. They got a shield and a gold medal. Verma donated blood more than 125 times and platelets 54 times for dengue patients. He has been serving in the Police Department since 1998.

Tune into water conservation

Yamunanagar: Yamunanagar-Jagadhri MC Mayor Madan Chauhan has released a music CD for creating awareness about water conservation. It has two songs titled “Chal Jal Sanchay Karle” and “Yamunanagar Ke Wasi” sung by Vikas Relhan and his team. Jagadhri SDM Pooja Chanwaria and Sumit Sumi have written the lyrics. Chief Sanitary Inspector Anil Nain said the idea was to make an impact in a unique manner. The eight-minute CD will be played on MC vehicles and in multiplexes.

Jagadhri doc strikes gold 

Yamunanagar: Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya has awarded Dr Anil Aggarwal, a surgeon and social worker of Jagadhri, with a gold medal for rendering services to society. He was felicitated at a function at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh on Friday. Dr Aggarwal has organised free medical and blood donation camps and performed more than 500 surgeries free of cost. He has donated blood 120 times. 

NHAI to construct bus port in Sonepat 

Sonepat: Instead of Haryana Transport Authority, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the proposed bus port adjoining the NH-44 near Sonepat on the pattern of the Inter State Bus Terminal in New Delhi. According to the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran, a letter for the re-allotment of about 10 acres (valued around Rs 77 crore) in Sector 7 here has been sent to the NHAI. In people’s opinion, the bus port will provide commuters with long-route inter-state bus services.

For safe and sound driving

Kaithal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised a workshop on “Road Safety Laws and Implementation” in Driving Training Institute in the district’s Padla village recently. In all, 150 trainees attended the workshop. MM Dhonchak, District and Sessions Judge and DLSA chairman, asked the trainees to comply with motor vehicle rules. A medical officer of the District Red Cross Society gave demonstration on giving first-aid.

School coordinator gets award

Hisar: Saint Kabir School, Hisar, coordinator Poonam Saini was conferred the Education Excellence Award instituted by the SilverZone Foundation. Prof Jagdish Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), handed over the award to Saini in a ceremony organised in New Delhi recently. School director Neeru Mehtani said Saini had made a significant contribution to the child and parent counselling during her 39 years in the field of education. She was conferred with the ICSE Excellence Award in the past.
