One of the seven persons who suffered bullet injuries in a shootout in Dadri town on August 6 died during treatment at a hospital in Gurugram on Sunday.
The deceased, Keertiman, suffered multiple bullet injuries when assailants fired around 30 rounds at the Scorpio SUV in which he was travelling with six others outside the City police station in Dadri town on August 6.
Keertiman, who faced around 15 criminal cases, was initially admitted to the PGIMS in Rohtak after the attack. However, his family later shifted him to a private hospital in Gurugram as his condition remained critical.
Sources said that he could not regain consciousness after the incident as he had suffered gunshot injuries to his neck and legs. A bullet injury to his neck damaged a nerve connected to the brain, leaving him in a coma, the sources said.
Keertiman, a resident of Tokas village in Hisar, had come to the Charkhi Dadri court on August 6 along with six others. As they were leaving the court after appearing in a land-related case, three armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on them. Keertiman was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle.
Police had earlier said that the assailants were targeting one of the seven persons, Amit Fatehgariya, who was also in the Scorpio. Amit sustained seven bullet injuries and was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Police records show that he has more than 20 criminal cases registered against him at different police stations. Most of the seven persons who suffered injuries also had multiple criminal cases registered against them.
Sources said that doctors recovered around 20 bullets from the injured during treatment. Kirtiman had three bullets removed from his neck and legs, while Krishan sustained four gunshot injuries to his hand, legs and chest. Amit suffered seven bullet injuries to his waist and legs, and Ankit of Mankawas was hit by four bullets in the chest, waist and hip area, the sources said.
Police records indicated that Keertiman had around 15 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in Hisar, including Civil Lines, Sadar, City, Azad Nagar and HTM, besides police stations in Bahl and Loharu in Bhiwani district.
Police had arrested one of the three assailants, Rohit alias Katiya, in connection with the firing. He reportedly revealed during interrogation that the attack had been planned a day before the incident.
