A 27-year-old woman bringing holy water from the Ganges was killed and her son and another kanwariya were injured in an accident that took place near KMP-KGP interchange in the district, this morning. The traffic movement was disrupted for half-an- hour by the kanwariyas as the latter blocked the expressway in protest against the incident.

According to police sources, the accident took place after the deceased woman identified as Sonali, who was on her way to Kosi Kalan in Mathura district of UP, on a two-wheeler, along with her minor son and another person, were hit by a trailer truck near the interchange around 10 am, this morning. While Sonali succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, her son Krishna (5) and another person identified as Virender suffered injuries. The injured were discharged after the first aid.

As the driver of the truck fled from the spot, other kanwariyas blocked the traffic movement for about 30 minutes, seeking arrest of the accused driver. The blockade was lifted on intervention of the police officials. “The truck has been impounded and a hunt for the driver has been launched, said a police official.
