Panipat, February 22

Sukhdev alias Pollu (40) of the district’s Jorasi village was shot dead in Samalkha on Friday. A old enmity was suspected to be the reason for the murder.

He worked as a painting contractor. He was treasurer of the BSP for the Samalkha constituency.

On Friday, he left for the market on a motorcycle to bring some material. Two youths riding a motorcycle came from the opposite direction, fired at him and fled.

On hearing gunshots, people reached the spot. They took him to the General Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Samalkha SHO Rajpal Singh said a case had been registered on the statement of deceased’s brother Trilok. The killers, who were from Samalkha, had been identified and raids were on to nab them, he said. — TNS
