Para judo player among 2 held for kidnapping child in Jhajjar
Accused released son of nursing college owner after receiving Rs 5-cr ransom
The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an international para judo player and his brother-in-law on charges of allegedly kidnapping a nine-year-old boy of the owner of a private nursing college and demanding a Rs 5-crore ransom on Holi. The child, who was held captive for nearly eight hours, was released by the accused after receiving the ransom.
Addressing a press conference at Bahadurgarh on Friday, SP (STF) Vikrant Bhushan said the accused had been identified as Monu of Kansala village in Rohtak district, and Manish of Barani village in Jhajjar district. Two other accomplices are absconding.
“Monu is an international judo player who has represented India in the Asian Para Games and also won 11 medals in national-level competitions. Manish used to work at a gaushala owned by the victim’s family and was familiar with their routine,” the SP said.
The accused kidnapped the child in a vehicle and demanded the ransom. After receiving it, they left the child in the Rohtak bypass area.
“The arrested accused do not have any previous criminal record. Both will be handed over to the Jhajjar police for further investigation. We will also question the accused to ascertain how the ransom amount was distributed, and to identify and arrest their accomplices," he added.
