Play-based education gets boost, Education Minister launches NIPUN Vatika in Rohtak
Students learning maths, language and logic through interactive activities
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda on Friday inaugurated the newly developed “NIPUN Vatika” at Government Primary School, Kharawar, and described the initiative as a transformative step towards making learning joyful, experiential and child-centric.
He pointed out that Rohtak district administration and the Education Department have created a remarkable model where foundational learning has been converted into an engaging and activity-based experience for children. Students are now learning mathematics, language and logical concepts through play-based and interactive methods, making education more effective, enjoyable and meaningful, he added.
Dhanda visited various learning zones inside the NIPUN Vatika and interacted extensively with students, teachers and school staff. Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar, District Education Officer Manjeet Malik, District Elementary Education Officer Diljeet Singh and other officials were also present during the programme.
“Children studying in government schools are highly talented and capable of excelling in every field if they are provided with proper opportunities, mentoring and a supportive environment. The efforts of the Rohtak administration and teaching community to introduce innovative educational interventions are appreciable as these are strengthening foundational literacy, numeracy, confidence and creativity among children,” said the minister.
During the visit, Dhanda closely observed activity-based modules designed for abacus learning, multiplication tables, geometric shapes, ascending-descending order, odd-even numbers, map learning, alphabets, vowels-consonants, measurement concepts and digital interactive exercises. He remarked that such experiential learning methods significantly improve conceptual understanding and classroom participation among students.
The Minister expressed particular appreciation after listening to a Class IV student, Tanish, recite an inspiring poem based on the life of Lord Krishna with remarkable confidence and clarity. He said the confidence displayed by children at such a young age reflects the dedication and emotional investment of teachers working in government schools.
Dhanda stated that the state government would extend full support to innovative educational models that strengthen learning outcomes and empower students from economically weaker backgrounds.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said the district administration is committed to transforming government schools into centres of excellence, innovation and opportunity. He said NIPUN Vatika has been designed to make learning natural, joyful and activity-oriented so that children develop confidence and conceptual clarity from the foundational stage itself.
“The objective is to ensure that students studying in government schools receive the same quality learning environment, exposure and academic support that is available in premier private institutions. He added that initiatives such as NIPUN Vatika and Super-40 are laying a strong foundation for the bright future of students and are helping create an ecosystem where talent can flourish irrespective of socio-economic background,” Gupta added.
The programme concluded with interactions between the Education Minister and students, where children enthusiastically showcased their learning activities and classroom innovations.
