According to officials, the man worked as a supervisor for construction works being carried out by a private contractor inside the military area of Ambala Cantonment, giving him access to sensitive locations.

Acting on inputs from intelligence agencies, the CIA-2 team apprehended the suspect on Friday night. Following a preliminary inquiry, he was arrested and produced before a court on Saturday, which remanded him in four days of police custody.

Investigators said the accused came in contact with Pakistan-based women through social media platforms and was gradually honey-trapped. “The girls used to keep asking him for various information about Army units and their movements, and he shared the details through different social media applications,” a police official said.

Confirming the arrest, Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, “A resident of Sabga village has been arrested for sharing the information of the Army units in Ambala Cantonment with some foreign-based individuals. He is on a four-day remand, and it has come to light that he was honey-trapped. He used to work as a supervisor for a private contractor in the military area.”

“He was in touch with the girls through social media for nearly seven months. They used to keep asking him for various information and he was sharing basic information like the presence of the Army unit, people, and the movements of the unit,” the SP added.

On whether information was also shared during Operation Sindoor, Shekhawat said the matter was under investigation. “It is a matter of investigation, but he was in touch with them during that period as well. The investigation is underway and all details about his contacts are being obtained,” he said.
