A Polish tourist and a taxi driver from Agra were killed in a road accident on the Kundali-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway on the wee hours of Wednesday.

A Polish woman accompanying the man was seriously injured when their taxi was hit by a dumper truck from the rear. The driver of another truck was also injured in the accident. The police have registered a case against the dumper driver, who fled from the spot.

Truck driver Manjesh, a native of UP, said in a complaint that the accident took place around 4 am near Yadupur village. "Since my truck’s axle was coming off, I got down and waved at vehicles coming from behind. I tried to alert a taxi coming from the Manesar side by flashing a torch. The driver slowed down, but I got hit by the car and was injured. A speeding truck hit the car, which got stuck between the two trucks. The taxi driver and a foreigner died on the spot, while a woman sitting in the front seat was injured. I then informed the police,” he said.

The police arrived at the spot and found a Swift D-zire stuck between two trucks. A senior police officer said three people were trapped in the car, and were pulled out with the help of a crane and local residents. Two died on the spot. They have been identified as taxi driver Nafees, a resident of Basai in Agra, and 29-year-old Polish national, Michal Majzik. The woman is being treated at a Delhi hospital, and is in a stable condition.

The police said Nafees worked as a taxi driver in Delhi. After receiving a booking for the Taj Mahal, he drove his car to a hotel in Gurugram, where he picked up the Polish nationals and left for Agra.
