The State Election Commission has sought a report from the general observer regarding a provocative speech by Minister of State for Cooperatives Manish Grover, in which he had offered guns, money and gunmen to residents of a village during campaigning.

The matter was reported on Saturday, following which the commission asked the Deputy Commissioner to probe the matter and submit a report by 11 am on Sunday.

The Deputy Commissioner sought more time. He asked the returning officer and SP to ascertain whether it amounted to violation of the model code of conduct and whether a cognisable offence was made out. After incorporating their inputs, the final report was submitted to the commission on Monday.

State Election Commissioner Dalip Singh said the DC’s report had been received and was being examined. He said a report had been sought from general observer Brijender Singh and action would be taken after getting the report.
