The Haryana Government has introduced the Surcharge Waiver Scheme-2024 to help settle outstanding electricity bills for domestic consumers. This scheme is available to both urban and rural domestic consumers whose electricity bills were due till December 31, 2023, and remain unpaid. It applies to both connected and disconnected domestic consumers.
Saket Kumar, managing director, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, said under the scheme, the entire surcharge to date on domestic electricity connections would be frozen. Consumers will only need to pay the principal amount. Payments can be made either as a lump sum or in instalments over the next three months. Those opting for a lump sum payment will receive an additional 5 per cent discount on the principal amount.
He said the frozen surcharge will be waived in proportion to the regular payment of the prescribed instalments and the next three monthly/bi-monthly bills. If the consumer does not pay the prescribed instalments and the next three monthly/bi-monthly bills continuously, then the frozen surcharge will be added again to the bill and the consumer will be considered out of the scheme.
