Power tariff unchanged; relief for over 83 lakh consumers in Haryana

In a major relief to electricity consumers, the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission has decided to keep power tariff unchanged for the financial year 2026-27, benefitting over 83.79 lakh consumers across the state. The revised tariff will come into effect from April 1, 2026.

The decision was taken after detailed hearings on the annual revenue requirement petitions filed by the state’s power distribution companies, which had projected a revenue gap of Rs 4,484.71 crore. Despite this, the Commission chose not to increase tariff.

The order was signed by Commission chairman Nand Lal Sharma and members Mukesh Garg and Shiv Kumar after consultations, including public hearings held in Panchkula, Gurugram, Panipat, Hisar and Yamunanagar.

5% rebate on prepaid meters

The Commission clarified that consumers using prepaid smart meters will continue to get a 5% rebate on both energy charges and fixed or minimum monthly charges. However, this rebate will not apply to other levies, duties or surcharges.

Subsidy for agriculture sector

A provision of Rs 7,870.32 crore has been made for subsidy on electricity supplied to agricultural tubewells. Farmers will pay only Rs 0.10 per unit against an actual cost of Rs 7.48 per unit. In addition, applicants for tubewell connections up to 10 brake horsepower till December 31, 2023, can enhance load without losing seniority as a one-time measure till May 31, 2026.

Focus on efficiency, infrastructure

The Commission has stressed strengthening power procurement systems and improving demand management. It has also directed distribution companies to reduce losses through feeder-level monitoring and expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure in major cities.

The order reflects a balanced approach aimed at protecting consumers while improving efficiency and financial discipline in the power sector.
