Amid heavy rainfall, Assandh, a small town of Karnal district, was abuzz with poll activity as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was here to inject new life into the party’s campaign ahead of the Assembly elections.

As Rahul began his speech, the party workers and supporters raised slogans, calling for unity and determination to reclaim Haryana from the BJP rule.

Minutes after it stopped raining, Gandhi stepped on the stage with party heavyweights — former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, party state president Udai Bhan, Sirsa MP Kumari Selja, former minister Chaudhary Birender Singh among others. Hundreds of workers had gathered at the rally and they waved party flags and chanted slogans, energising the atmosphere. During his speech, Gandhi gave an emotional speech and highlighted the issue of unemployment in Haryana, which, he said, had forced the youth to migrate abroad through ‘donkey’ routes.

Rahul Gandhi emphasised on unity and said, “We are united and our fight is for the people. Together, we will bring back the Congress to power and change the face of this state.”

Party leaders and workers were full of enthusiasm and said it had energised them. “The visit of Rahul Gandhi has charged our campaign. We will win the seat,” said Shamsher Singh Gogi.

Sumita Singh, former MLA and Congress candidate, said it was a record-breaking rally as the huge gathering had given a strong message to all the people who wanted a change. “Congress is going to form a government as people want a change,” he added.
