Rai to have sports varsity

CHANDIGARH: The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department to enact the Sports University of Haryana Bill for the establishment of a sports university in the state.

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department to enact the Sports University of Haryana Bill for the establishment of a sports university in the state.

The university will come up in Rai. It will be the first full-fledged sports university of international standards in the state. It will focus on promotion of sports education in the areas of science, technology, management, research and training.

Sports Minister Anil Vij tweeted that the Haryana Sports University, Rai, will have an eminent sportsperson, sports administrator or sports academician as Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor.

The Cabinet also decided that the existing post of Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Department, will be re-designated as Engineer-in-Chief, Roads, who will look after the work of roads and bridges and court cases related to these two subjects andall residual issues or works of the department.

Palwal-Sonepat rail line

The Cabinet has approved a proposal for a rail project that will connect Palwal to Sonepat under the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor Project. It will cost Rs5,566 crore.

The Haryana Rail Infrastructure Devlopment Corporation (HRIDC), a joint venture of Railway Ministry and the state government, will give shape to the project.

The length of the new rail line will be 121.74 km. It will have 17 stations, including 14 new ones, 23 major waterway bridges, 195 minor waterway bridges and three rail flyovers. Besides, it will have two road overbridges and 153 road underbridges.

The rail corridor will connect Gurugram with Chandigarh, bypassing Delhi, leading to reduced travel time.

Monsoon session starts on Aug 2

The Cabinet decided that the monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha will commence on August 2. This will be the last session of the BJP government before the state goes to the polls
