Rape victim gets Rs 4-lakh relief

AMBALA: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded Rs4 lakh in compensation to a rape victim under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded Rs4 lakh in compensation to a rape victim under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.

Danish Gupta, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, said: “Krishan and his accomplice Harbhajan had raped a girl and threatened to kill her. The girl was a minor at the time of the incident. Krishan had raped her repeatedly. Initially, she remained silent. But later, she reported the matter to the police.”

A case was registered on February 27, 2016, at the Sadar police station here.

Krishan was convicted on October 29 this year under Section 4 of the POCSO Act and Section 328 of the IPC, while Harbhajan was held guilty under Section 506 of the IPC.

The CJM said, “The victim has suffered agony and pain. The compensation is awarded for her rehabilitation.”

The state government had enacted the Victim Compensation Scheme 2013 for providing financial help to victims or dependants, who suffered loss or injury as a result of the crime and required rehabilitation. The relief is provided if the family’s annual income is less than Rs4.5 lakh. — TNS
