Rebels in Congress, BJP file papers as Independents from Panipat Urban, Rural and Sonepat
After the declaration of the Congress ticket, there has been resentment in the Panipat (Urban) and Panipat (Rural) constituencies. Congress rebel Vijay Jain filed his nomination from the Panipat (Rural) constituency while former MLA Rohita Rewri filed her nomination from Panipat (Urban). Meanwhile, a BJP rebel, Himanshu Sharma, also filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from Panipat (Urban).
Vijay Jain, former BJP councillor, joined the Congress party in the presence of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress state president Udai Bhan in Rohtak on July 8. Jain, who was a strong ticket aspirant from the Panipat (Rural) Assembly constituency, was in the race since the day he joined the party. But, the Congress chose Sachin Kundu from Panipat (Rural) in the wee hours on Thursday. Following this, Jain called an emergency meeting of his supporters at his Sector 13/17 office and decided to contest the elections as an Independent. After this, he resigned from the Congress party and filed his nomination.
Similarly, in the Panipat (Urban) constituency, Rohita Rewri, former BJP MLA had joined the Congress in presence of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state president Udai Bhan in Rohtak just before the Lok Sabha elections on May 14 by accusing the BJP. She was also in the race for the Panipat (Urban) seat, but the party declared Varinder Kumar Shah from here.
Following this, Rohita Rewri and her husband, Surender Rewri, called a supporters' meeting and resigned from the Congress party and filed her nomination as an Independent candidate. Rohita Rewri said she would not step back as Panipat residents were her family and all family members were supporting her.
In Sonepat, BJP rebel and two-time former media adviser to the Chief Minister, Rajiv Jain, filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from the Sonepat Assembly segment on Thursday. Former Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Minister and his wife Kavita Jain, his son Divyank Jain along with others were present during his nomination.
“We have served the residents after adopting the ideology of the RSS and we have waited till this afternoon so that ticket could be allotted to us but no communication has been made. We have already spoken about the sentiments of the people to the party high command,” Jain added.
Refusing to leave the BJP, Jain further added that we have worked to strengthen the party in the state at all stages. Even if the party expels us, we would continue working as a sincere member of the RSS.
Kavita Jain said the BJP is our mother and we have worked for the party day and night. But, the people and party workers were enraged over the party ticket declaration, she said.
