Sonepat/Karnal, August 19
Nine members of a family of Garhpur Tapu village in Karnal district, who were were stranded in flood water, were rescued by an Air Force helicopter at around 2:45 am on Monday.
The family’s house was situated near the Yamuna which has swelled up due to incessant rain.
SDM Indri Sumit Kumar confirmed the rescue operation was conducted with the help of the helicopter and said it was not possible to rescue them with a boat as the water in Yamuna had reached a dangerous level.

DC Anshaj Singh on Monday asked residents of villages located near the Yamuna river to vacate their houses as around 8 lakh cusecs of water was released from Tajewala head works and is likely to enter Sonepat district during the night.
SDMs along with support staff have been put on duty along the river to monitor the situation.
