Enraged over the lack of basic amenities in residential sectors, members of resident welfare associations (RWAs) from various sectors staged a protest at the Estate Office (EO) of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in Sector 18 on Monday.
Baljeet Singh, Convener of Haryana Sectors’ Confederation, presided over the protest. SK Tyagi, executive member of the confederation, said the members of RWAs of Sector 6, 7, 8, 13/17, 24 and 40 participated in the protest, alleging that the HSVP has failed in providing basic amenities to the residents in its Panipat sectors.
Despite sending several reminders to HSVP officials, development works are allegedly not being completed on time, forcing the RWAs to take to the streets. Protesters raised slogans against the Chief Administrator of HSVP in Panchkula and the Administrator of HSVP in Rohtak for not addressing their genuine grievances.
Baljeet Singh accused the HSVP officials of a lethargic attitude. He added that the file for the Sewage Treatment Plant to be constructed in Sector 7 at a cost of Rs 27.68 crore was sent by the Chief Administrator on December 5 last year to the Chief Engineer, PHED Sector 4 for examination, but it is still pending with the Chief Engineer.
He further pointed out that sewerages are overflowing in several sectors, causing sewage to spill onto the roads. Several sewage tanks lack lids, posing a serious risk of accidents. “The government emphasises cleanliness and sanitation, yet heaps of garbage can be seen everywhere here as no one comes to collect garbage in the sectors since many days,” Singh alleged.
The presidents of RWAs from different sectors stated that while tenders for road construction have been finalised and work orders allotted to agencies, the work has not been completed on time. They also claimed that no maintenance work is being carried out in the green belts and parks of the sectors.
The residents further alleged that due to improper water sampling by the department, contaminated potable water is being supplied to their houses. They demanded regular sampling and timely chlorination to ensure residents receive clean drinking water.
