Rewari hockey coach arrested after minor player alleges she was raped, impregnated by him

Days after national shooting coach Ankush Bhardwaj was booked on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl shooter in Faridabad, a minor player of Rewari district has accused a junior coach of raping her.

Acting swiftly, the police have arrested the accused and obtained a two-day police remand for his interrogation after producing him before a local court.

However, the name or other particulars of the arrested coach have not been disclosed by the Rewari police.

"The identity of the accused has been kept confidential in accordance with the directions of the court and in view of the sensitivity of the matter," said district police spokesman Raj Kumar.

The complainant, who is a hockey player and a student of Class XII, had lodged a complaint with the police on January 9, alleging that the junior coach, who knows her for nearly three years, had raped her in a washroom of a stadium nearly four months ago.

"Following that, I got pregnant. The child got aborted on January 5, following which my condition deteriorated and my family got me admitted to a hospital," she stated.

On the basis of her complaint, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the junior coach.

The police produced the accused before a local court, which remanded him in police custody for two days.
