Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsInternal tensions within the Congress party’s Sirsa unit came to light again after district president Santosh Beniwal issued a letter rebuking local leaders and workers who skipped a district-level tribute event for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary on Friday.
In the letter, Beniwal expressed disappointment that several office-bearers, executive members and ticket holders failed to attend the programme. She said their absence reflected not only lack of party discipline but also disrespect toward one of India’s most respected leaders. The message, circulated to all local units, has once again highlighted the growing divide and indifference among sections of the party’s local leadership.
Beniwal warned that such behaviour would no longer be tolerated, calling it “serious indiscipline.” She directed those who missed the event to send a written explanation to the district office within 24 hours and cautioned that repeat violations would lead to organisational action.
Emphasising the importance of unity and discipline, Beniwal reminded members that the Congress drew its strength from the values and sacrifices of its leaders. “If we do not respect our history and those who built this party, our credibility among the people will weaken,” she wrote. She added that no individual is above the organisation and that discipline must remain the party’s hallmark. The letter has sparked fresh discussion within the local political circle, with insiders seeing it as a sign of internal discontent and weakening coordination among party ranks in Sirsa.
