Despite fog and cold weather conditions, the ‘Run for Road Safety’ got an overwhelming response in Yamunanagar district.
The run was kicked off by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Rakshak Vihar of Jagadhri city on Friday morning.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana and its people have always played a vital role in resolving various issues in society and the country.
He said that earlier also, marathons had been organised in different districts of the state on various important issues, including drugs and national unity.
“With the massive presence of people in today’s event, I am quite sure that the theme with which the run has been organised here will definitely be achieved,” said the Chief Minister.
He also expressed concern at the increasing number of casualties in road accidents and said that keeping in the view the gravity of the situation, the state government decided to organise Drive Safe Marathon - Run for Road Safety.
Special Officer, Chief Minister’s Office, and ADGP, OP Singh said that the run was organised in the categories of 5, 11, 21 and 42 km spreading the message not only to people of Yamunanagar, but also the country to follow traffic rules.
Deputy Commissioner Girish Arora said, “People from all walks of life, sportspersons, students, members of various organisations and people of the district ran together in the marathon to set a new record.”
