Robbers hold advocate, wife hostage in Kurukshetra, flee with cash, jewellery worth Rs 3.25 crore
Advocate says the same thieves had committed a theft at his house on March 20, a case was registered on March 21, but the police failed to catch them
In a shocking incident, four armed robbers held an advocate and his wife hostage and looted cash, ornaments, and other valuables worth Rs 3.25 crore before fleeing from Kurukshetra on Friday night.
According to the information available, around 9.30 pm, four robbers entered advocate Balwant Singh Walia’s house in Sector 7 and held his wife hostage while the advocate had gone out for a walk with his dog.
According to the advocate’s wife, she was watching a show when the robbers entered the house, tied her hands and legs and taped her mouth.
When Balwant Singh Walia returned home, he found the robbers inside the house. He tried to rescue his wife, following which a scuffle broke out. However, the robbers overpowered the advocate and held him at gunpoint.
The robbers remained inside the house for nearly two hours and searched through different drawers and the safe. Before fleeing, they locked the couple inside the house and threatened to return.
Around 11.30 pm, the victims managed to come out of the house with the help of neighbours and informed the police about the incident.
Advocate Walia said, “When I returned home, I found four robbers inside the house. They had held my wife hostage. Two of them were carrying pistols, while the other two were committing the robbery. They said they had left some items behind during the previous theft as they could not open the lockers, and they had returned to collect them. They threatened to kill us if we refused to open the lockers. With no other option, we had to open the safe, and they fled with all the valuables.”
“The same thieves had committed a theft at our house on March 20. A case was registered on March 21, but the police failed to catch them. They were wearing masks. Before leaving, they threw away our phones and also took away the CCTV cameras and DVR. Our entire life savings of 30 years are gone. The police must arrest the thieves and ensure the security and safety of residents,” he added.
In the previous theft, the family had suffered a loss of around Rs 50 lakh. This time, the robbers fled with cash, ornaments, and valuables worth around Rs 3.25 crore, including around Rs 17-20 lakh in cash, approximately 2 kg of gold, and about 4 kg of silver.
Advocate Walia’s daughter, who reached Kurukshetra from Noida after receiving information about the incident, said, “We are shocked to see how insecure we are in the city. This is the second time our house has been targeted. They held my father at gunpoint. It is surprising how criminals are roaming freely in vehicles without number plates. They have no fear of the police.”
After receiving information, several advocates, former Minister of State Subhash Sudha, and CM’s Kurukshetra office in-charge Kailash Saini reached the advocate’s house and assured the family of all possible help.
According to the Kurukshetra police spokesperson, a case has been registered at the City Thanesar Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the robbers.
