Robbers took away an ATM machine from the kiosk of HDFC Bank in Tosham town of Bhiwani district last night. Bank officials said the ATM had Rs 17 lakh cash.

The CCTV footage retrieved from the bank revealed that a gang of 5-6 men executed the robbery. They uprooted the machine by tying it with an iron chain to a pick-up vehicle.

The incident took place at 2 am when no guard was deployed at the machine.

The officials said that the ATM located on Hospital road in the town has no guard at night. The footage revealed that one of the robbers in a yellow shirt was the first to enter the kiosk. He tried to damage the CCTV camera with an iron road. But he could only damage its outer lens and the camera remained functional.

A police official said that the robbers had determined in advance to drag away the entire machine as the CCTV footage revealed that they never tried to break it open.

“The machine weighs around 700 kg and it is not easy to take it away. After uprooting the machine that was fixed in the floor of the kiosk, they loaded it in the pick-up vehicle and drove away.

The robbers arrived at 2.04 am. The siren went off when they started the loot, but it became silent after one minute. The burglars were off from the site at 2.10 am, the CCTV revealed.

Bank official Pradeep Suri said that the ATM has Rs 17,62,700. Bhiwani SP Ganga Ram Punia said that they have got a tip-off about the accused and would be able to track the robbers soon.
