In a bid to promote modern and profitable agricultural practices, the district administration in Rohtak has decided to appoint progressive farmers from each village as brand ambassadors.

The initiative aims to encourage farmers to adopt innovative techniques, diversify into allied agricultural activities and maximise benefits under various government schemes to enhance productivity and income.

Officials of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department have been directed to identify progressive farmers who, besides conventional cultivation, are generating substantial income through agriculture-based allied activities such as dairy, horticulture, fisheries and value addition.

Sharing details of the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta said that officers concerned have been instructed to prepare detailed case studies of the selected farmers and properly document their success stories.

“Lectures of these farmers will be organised in villages to spread awareness. Besides, they will also be publicly honoured for their achievements. Regular awareness programmes will also be conducted to help farmers avail benefits of various government schemes and increase their income while reducing input costs,” he added.

The DC has also directed officials of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra to extend full cooperation to progressive farmers engaged in research and innovation.

Emphasising sustainable practices, Gupta instructed officials to take measures to prevent soil erosion and maintain soil health. “Soil conservation is crucial for maintaining the productive capacity of agricultural land. Farmers should get their soil and water tested to determine the most suitable and profitable crops for their fields,” he added.

On development initiatives, the DC said a Rs 2-crore agriculture project has been prepared for the Kalanaur area and forwarded to the headquarters for approval. Additionally, work is underway on a vertical drainage system in Madodhi village to provide a permanent solution to waterlogging affecting nearly 500 acres of farmland.

Gupta also directed officials of the Fisheries Department to conduct regular testing of pond water quality and expedite the auction process of remaining panchayat ponds to promote fish farming activities in the district.
