Rohtak to launch ‘Dry Friday’ drive to curb dengue
Officials of all departments directed to eliminate stagnant water sources every Friday
With the onset of the monsoon season, the Rohtak district administration has stepped up preparedness to prevent the spread of dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
Officials of all government departments, including Urban Local Bodies, Panchayati Raj Institutions and educational institutions, have been directed to strictly observe ‘Dry Friday Every Week’ by emptying and cleaning water storage containers, desert coolers, flower pots and other places where stagnant water can accumulate. The special campaign will begin on Friday (July 17).
Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have also been urged to participate in the initiative to strengthen preventive efforts. Meanwhile, district health authorities have launched intensive anti-larval operations and surveillance across vulnerable areas.
While issuing the directions on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta appealed to citizens to actively participate in the fight against dengue, saying the weekly exercise would help eliminate mosquito breeding sites and curb the spread of vector-borne diseases.
Gupta stressed that sustained success in controlling dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases could only be achieved through active community participation.
“Surveillance teams are continuously monitoring high-risk areas, anti-larval operations have been intensified, and awareness campaigns are being conducted across the district. Prevention remains the most effective strategy against vector-borne diseases, and every citizen should actively contribute towards maintaining a mosquito-free environment,” Gupta said.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials to further strengthen active case finding under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme and ensure uninterrupted treatment and nutritional support for TB patients.
“Rohtak district is steadily strengthening its healthcare ecosystem. Infrastructure is being strengthened with the ongoing construction of new Sub-Health Centres, Block Public Health Units, residential quarters for healthcare personnel and the new OPD Block at Sub-Divisional Hospital, Kalanaur. Besides this, patient amenities, token management systems and CCTV surveillance systems are being upgraded at Civil Hospital, Rohtak,” he added.
