In a first-of-its-kind academic initiative, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, has rolled out a summer school programme focused on artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Titled “First hands-on practice in artificial intelligence industrial readiness”, the month-long programme was inaugurated in the presence of university officials, industry experts and students on Monday.
The programme — being organised by the department of mathematics in collaboration with the Career Counselling and Placement Cell and Ruhil Future Technology — will begin on June 9 and end at July 8.
Dr Sumeet Gill, Head of Department (mathematics), outlined the objectives and structure of the summer school, stating that the initiative was not just a platform for acquiring technical knowledge but also a major step towards preparing students for real-world industrial challenges.
Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh said AI was no longer just an academic subject but an essential life skill in the modern era.
“The programme will introduce students to emerging AI-based technologies and foster interdisciplinary learning, broadening their overall educational experience,” he added.
Registrar Krishnakant Gupta stressed the importance of the initiative, stating that such training programmes were beneficial not only for students but also for faculty members.
Dean (Academic Affairs) AS Man called the summer school a bridge between academic growth and industrial relevance.
Dean (Student Welfare) Randeep Rana spoke about the broader significance of the programme, and encouraged students to participate actively in creative and mentally stimulating activities during the programme. From a pool of 270 applicants, 30 have been selected for the intensive training programme. Research scholars Navita, Kusumlata, Annu Yadav and Vikas played key roles in organising the event.
“Through the summer school, students will receive training in disciplines such as AI, machine learning and data science. They will benefit from live demonstrations, hands-on sessions and project-based learning, providing them with real-world industry exposure,” said an official of the university.
