Ror community demands probe into ‘encounter’ of Karnal village resident in murder case

A couple of days after an alleged encounter of Harsh, a resident of Kala Majra village in Karnal district and another other, in connection with a murder of Vir alias Veeru Valmiki of Sadar Bazar in the city, a panchayat of Ror community was organised in the village on Sunday.

Community members expressed grief on Harsh’s death and anger over the encounter, describing it “fake”. During the panchayat, members discussed the circumstances surrounding his death and future course of action in the matter.

Community members demanded a fair investigation from the CBI. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Ror Mahasabha also decided to hold a meeting of its office-bearers and other prominent members to take up the matter with the Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini.

“We demand a CBI inquiry in this case. Our office bearers will meet in this matter on Monday to chalk out a future course of action. We will seek an appointment from the CM in this regard,” said Balkar Pundri, president of Akhil Bhartiya Ror Mahasabha.

The panchayat was attended by a large number of members of the Ror community.

Rajesh Chauhary, a community member, claimed that the encounter was carried out under political pressure.

“Harsh, along with Birbal of Matarwa Kheri village was shot dead by the police on the intervening night of last Thursday and Friday in connection with the murder of Veeru Valimiki. Theory of police is not digestible as the name of Harsh was not in the FIR,” said Rajender Arya, a community member.

Meanwhile, members of the community appealed to everyone to maintain patience and restraint till a collective decision is taken. They also urged people not to post or circulate anything on social media that could create difficulties for community representatives in pursuing the matter through legal means.

However, police have already claimed that on the intervening night of August 6 and 7, on information about the movement of the suspects in connection with Veeru’s murder, a checkpoint was set up near the Western Yamuna Canal bypass.

When police officials tried to stop the bike-borne persons, they allegedly opened fire on the police team. The police team retaliated, injuring both suspects. They were rushed to the district civil hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
