Karnal, July 20

Four miscreants allegedly looted more than Rs 25 lakh at gunpoint from the office of a mining contractor in Sector 7 here on Friday.

Before snatching the cash, they vandalised the office and took the digital video recording (DVR) with them.

Eyewitnesses said the miscreants fled towards the GT Road after committing the crime. Surinder Singh Bhoria, Superintendent of Police (SP), reached there and inspected the scene. He constituted four teams to trace the robbers. “Four teams have been constituted and CCTV cameras of the nearby shops are being searched for clues,” he said.

He did not rule out the involvement of any known person and said they were investigating all angles.

The incident took place in just seven minutes. The miscreants entered the office at 10.35 am and escaped after looting at 10.42 am. One of the employees said they were counting cash collected from the mining sites at that time. The looters barged into the cash room by breaking open the door.

Ved Pal Rana, one of the partners of Jai Yamuna Ji Developers, said the miscreants took away between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh from the office. He said the police reached the spot around five minutes after getting information.
