Shiromani Akali Dal has decided to contest forthcoming assembly elections in Haryana, the party’s spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Harcharan Singh Bains, the party’s principal spokesperson, said the party, at its core committee meeting that SAD chief Sukhbir Badal had presided over, had decided to interview aspiring candidates on September 22. Senior Akali leader Balwinder Singh Bhundur will head a screening committee. He will also head a committee that will hold seat-sharing talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the spokesperson.

Candidates interested in contesting elections have already been asked to submit their applications by September 22, he said.
