Samalkha MLA reopens locked shop, video goes viral
Shop had remained shut for over one-and-a-half years
A video of Samalkha MLA Manmohan Bhadana reopening a locked shop in Chhajpur village of Panipat district has gone viral on social media. The Haryana unit of the BJP also shared the clip on its official ‘X’ handle, showing the MLA scolding a person and lifting the shutter of the shop.
The incident pertains to a shop in Chhajpur village in the Bapoli area of the Samalkha Assembly segment, which had reportedly remained closed for over one-and-a-half years allegedly due to threats from an influential person.
The development comes in the backdrop of the death of Subhash of Chhajpur, who was found near the FCI godown on Sanoli Road close to Nimbri village on February 8 under suspicious circumstances. Initially treated as a road accident case by Chandnibagh police, the family later alleged that Subhash was murdered over an old land dispute.
A joint panchayat of Chhajpur Kalan and Chhajpur Khurd villages was held, which the MLA attended. After hearing the family’s grievances, Bhadana asked the Panipat Superintendent of Police to conduct a fair inquiry.
During the panchayat, Ravinder, brother of the deceased, stated that his shop had remained locked for the past one-and-a-half years. Acting on the complaint, the MLA visited the spot, reprimanded the person concerned and warned against further harassment of Ravinder or his children.
He then directed that the shop be opened. The lock was broken and the shutter lifted, with the MLA stating that Ravinder would resume work there. The episode, witnessed by a large gathering, quickly spread across social media platforms.
