‘Sansad Khel Mahotsav’ kicks off in Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal today said that within the next year, all villages under the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency would receive sports equipment. He also added that all village-level stadiums would be upgraded with the required facilities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav at Dronacharya Stadium, Jindal said sports equipment would be provided to every village in the constituency to improve the physical fitness of the youth and gyms would also be established in all villages within a year. Existing village stadiums would be improved by providing equipment and coaches, he added, which would make next year’s Khel Mahotsav “even better”.

MP Jindal, Chief Minister’s Office in-charge Kailash Saini, former Minister of State Subhash Sudha and Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena hoisted the flag and unveiled the trophy. A march past was held during the event, led by boxer Manoj Kumar.

Jindal administered a pledge to the youth to stay away from drugs and help others do the same.

“Today marks the beginning of sports in the holy city. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s desire is to strengthen the nation and ensure a fit youth. To this end, the Khelo India and Fit India campaigns have been launched. It is crucial to involve youth in sports to protect them from addiction. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, sports in the state are being promoted. As a result, Haryana, which has 2.5 per cent of the population, wins more than 20 per cent of the medals,” Jindal said.

The MP stated that the Khel Mahotsav is being organised in three phases in the Kurukshetra parliamentary constituency. Over 3.30 lakh players have registered for the competitions. The first phase began today and will continue until November 22. The second phase will take place from December 1 to 6, and the third from December 14 to 24.

Former Minister of State Subhash Sudha said MP Naveen Jindal had organised the mahotsav to encourage youngsters to adopt sports and a healthy lifestyle.
