Newly appointed HPCC chief Kumari Selja and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today called upon party workers and supporters to get united to put up a fight to ensure the party’s return to power in the upcoming poll.

Addressing a workers’ meeting at Sector 16 anaj mandi here today, both leaders issued an appeal for united efforts to strengthen the party.

It was the first joint address by the two leaders after the recent change at the top of the state unit. Appearing apprehensive of factionalism within the party cadre, both of them claimed that it was time for a change in government and that the Congress was the best bet.

“Don’t raise slogans of any particular leader but only for the Congress,” said Selja. Asking party activists to rise above personal interests, she said things would change for the better when vested interests are out.

“I wish to clarify that no one will be discriminated against within the party as all the leaders and workers will be treated at the same platform,” she said, adding that everyone should work as a dedicated soldier of the party to ensure the change. “The Congress will form the next government if the party comes out united and works hard to create faith among the masses,” she said.

Former CM Hooda, who has been made chairman of election committee, also batted for change in the state government. Charging the BJP government with utter failure on all fronts, he said the people were at the receiving end due to unprecedented economic slowdown and failure of the state government to fulfil any promises of 2014.
