Selja trashes exit polls, says will form next govt

Chandigarh, October 22

Dismissing the exit poll tally of seats to various political parties, state Congress chief Kumari Selja on Tuesday said the Congress was poised to form the next government with 45-plus seats.

Addressing a press conference, she said the Congress would not need support of any regional party to form the government. “We will get 45-plus seats, enough to form the government on our own,” she said.

Stating that the party had put up a united fight in the Assembly elections, she said the decision on Chief Minister would be taken by the Congress top brass.

She said this in response to a question on whether former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda or she would head the new government.

Claiming that the BJP was well aware of ground reality in Haryana, she said Manohar Lal Khattar government had nothing to showcase as its achievement in the last five years.

“The party did not ask for votes in the name of its work in the last five years. It did not ask for votes in the name of its state leadership. All the party did was divert attention by raising the issues of Article 370 and the NRC. Right through the campaign, lack of confidence of the BJP was evident,” she said.

The state Congress chief added that since the party did not have faith in Khattar’s leadership and his work, the BJP had to rely on leaders from various states to campaign for candidates.
