KARNAL: Dyal Singh Public School, Sector-7, organised a seminar on ''Nutrition for the prevention of lifestyle diseases''.



Karnal: Dyal Singh Public School, Sector-7, organised a seminar on 'Nutrition for the prevention of lifestyle diseases'. Monica Malik, a retired associate professor and a nutritionist, delivered the talk. She was accorded a warm welcome by Nina Rai Singh, academic advisor, Principal Shalini Narang and the school staff. Monica emphasised upon the need to eat well-balanced diet, including fruits, vegetables and food low in fats to develop a healthy immune system. She firmly stated that protein supplements and energy drinks etc. can never be substitutes for a nutritious diet. Through a slideshow, teachers were made aware about the causes, symptoms and treatment of various diseases, which generate only due to the deficiency of vitamins, iron and proteins.

Badminton tournament organised

Sirsa: Sirsa School organised the CBSE North Zone-II Badminton Tournament, in which around 1,000 students of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and J&K participated. The tournament was for boys and girls both and there were three age groups — Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19. Little Angles School, Sonepat, performed exceptionally well as they won in all six categories. The winning team will now go to Varanasi to participate in the national-level tourney on December 3.

Career counselling session held

Faridabad: A career counselling session was held at the Aggarwal College, Ballabgarh, in collaboration with the District Employment Office. Around 200 final year students from all streams — B Sc, BA and B Com attended the programme. NS Tanwar (IAS, Retd.) and Major RK Sharma (Retd.) were the main speakers. Dr Manoj Shukla of the career counselling cell coordinated the programme. Major RK Sharma laid emphasis on career in defense services and asked students to keep working hard focussing on their subjects. He briefed them about the process of appearing in entrance examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Revealing about the benefit of joining the defense forces, he said one was eligible for after service benefits such as pension, gratuity as per the rules applicable after their retirement. He highlighted the importance of ‘C’ Certificate of the NCC. Tanwar also motivated students asking them to work hard.

IGU student wins gold

Rewari: Gajanand, a student of M Com (first semester) at Indira Gandhi University (IGU), clinched gold in Taekwondo event at North Zone Qwan Ki Do Championship held in Sonepat recently. Vice-Chancellor Prof SK Gakhar felicitated the student and assured other students to provide all necessary facilities required to polish their sports talent.

Sonepat’s team wins kabaddi C’ship

Sonepat: The women polytechnic team at the BPS Women University, Khanpur Kalan, won the three-day Haryana State Women Inter-Polytechnic Kabaddi Championship, which concluded at the university sports ground last evening. Government women polytechnic teams from Sira and Faridabad bagged the second and third position, respectively. Vice-Chancellor Prof Sushma Yadav distributed prizes among the winners. The VC stressed that sports activities not only keep individuals physically and mentally sound, but also generate employment opportunities. “Sports activities are necessary in educational institutions and the university is concentrating on promoting it,” the VC said.
