Haryana: Ambala gets physiotherapy centre for children with rare genetic disease
NGO SEVA Trust UK establishes ‘SEVA Dhaam Ashram’ in Ambala, dedicated to children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
In a one-of-a-kind initiative aimed at improving health, rehabilitation and prospects of children affected by the rare genetic disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), SEVA Trust UK (India) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art physiotherapy centre at Saha village in Ambala.
The NGO has established a ‘SEVA Dhaam Ashram’, with the support of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), a public sector undertaking under the Union Ministry of Railways, and has been dedicated to society for the benefit of DMD-affected children.
Naresh Mittal, Chairman, Seva Trust UK (India), informed that the modern physiotherapy equipment has been provided by the DFCCIL under its CSR initiative.
The facility was inaugurated by Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, DFCCIL, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, he emphasised that DMD is an extremely challenging and rare disease, and supporting affected children and their families is a social and moral responsibility shared by all stakeholders.
He appreciated the NGO and stated that society, industry and social organisations must work together to improve the lives of children battling rare diseases.
He expressed confidence that the newly established physiotherapy centre would bring renewed hope to affected families and play a significant role in enhancing the health and quality of life of DMD patients.
The event was attended by several DFCCIL officers, including Pawan Kumar Rai, Director, DFCCIL; Sandesh Srivastava, Executive Director and Alok Kumar, General Manager, on this occasion.
Chairman Naresh Mittal and Vice Chairman Dr Virendra Jain informed that the facility is providing free physiotherapy, residential accommodation, and nutritious meals to children suffering from DMD.
