BJP announces Shyam Lal Bansal for Panchkula Municipal Corporation elections

The two-time former Panchkula District President for the party and also an old time RSS leader has been chosen over outgoing mayor Kulbhushan Goyal. Bansal holds sway among Agarwal community votes in the area.
The Congress had earlier chosen Sudha Bhardwaj, 65, as its candidate for the Panchkula mayoral polls.
Bansal, the businessman-cum-politician, has also served as the Convener of the Investor Protection Cell for the BJP in Haryana.
The 70-year-old is a contemporary of former Haryana Assembly Speaker and former Panchkula MLA Gian Chand Gupta.
Bansal began his career with a grocery store in 1970 and later took on stone crushing business before moving up to acquire government contracts for major infrastructural projects.
He has earlier contested assembly elections from Kalka thrice but without success.
Observers appointed for MC elections
Ahead of the Municipal Corporàtion elections scheduled for May 10, D Suresh has been appointed as the General Observer, Abhishek Jorwal as the Police Observer and Harveer Singh Chauhan as the Expenditure Observer. Meanwhile, Sukhdev Singh has been designated as the Nodal Officer (Complaints).
Haryana State Election Commission Secretary Gaurav Kumar said the appointments are aimed to ensure free, fair, transparent and peaceful conduct of the municipal corporations’ elections in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat, municipal council polls in Rewari and municipal committees in Uklana, Sampla and Dharuhera.
Kumar said IAS and HCS officers have been appointed as General Observers, IPS officers as Police Observers and senior officers from the Excise and Taxation Department as Expenditure Observers.
